Next Reign: Kingdom Hotfix v1.0.3
September 5, 2026: expedition units, endgame storage raised to 1,000,000, and university research +1,300 per level.
On September 5, 2026, Tiny Tulip Games released Hotfix v1.0.3 for Next Reign: Kingdom. The patch added expedition units as a new late-game feature, raised endgame storage caps significantly, and buffed university research. This page is the recap of those changes for players who already own 1.0. If you are still on an earlier version, this page is a preview of what shipped on September 5.
What expedition units are
Expedition units are a new unit type that joins the five combat types already in the game. They were added in response to player feedback that late-game army composition felt thin. The hotfix introduced them without a full announcement, which is Tiny Tulip’s usual shipping style: small patch, fast turnaround, then more feedback. Expedition units appear in the army tab alongside peasants, spearmen, shield knights, mages, and archers. They are not a replacement for any existing type. They are an addition for players who have already built a working economy and want the army tab to do more.
Public play hours on v1.0.3 are still thin because the patch landed September 5 and the game launched September 3. This page will not invent roles or stats for expedition units that have not appeared in recorded footage. Check the unit tier list once more public hours exist. Until then, treat expedition units as a late-reign unlock that appears after the castle and the university are standing.
Endgame storage completely changed
The biggest number shift in v1.0.3 is the storage cap. Before this patch, regular resources, Glory/Favor, and Knowledge had caps that players described as frustrating for idle overnight runs. The hotfix raised them to:
- Regular resources: 1,000,000
- Glory and Favor: 1,000,000 (raised from a lower starting cap; castle upgrades now push this to 1,000,000 total)
- Knowledge: 500,000 (raised; each University max is now 25,000)
That is a massive jump. A player who felt capped at 12,500 on regular resources in the demo, or around 30,650 after v1.0.2 adjustments, now has room to idle overnight without hitting a wall. The Main Gamers community post from September 6 confirms the 1,000,000 regular cap is the live number, not a typo.
Castle upgrades each add +100,000 storage now, up from whatever the pre-patch value was. If you were already building castles before September 5, those upgrades now do more than they did on September 3 or 4.
University research receive a major buff
The university building, which handles research and knowledge, received a per-level storage increase of +1,300 per university level. Each university can now hold up to 25,000 knowledge, and multiple universities stack to the 500,000 total cap. This makes university research a real late-game investment instead of a curiosity. If your kingdom was stalling on knowledge because the single university cap was too small, v1.0.3 fixes that. Build more universities or level the existing ones. The storage now justifies the wood and stone.
Starting Glory and Favor caps raised
The hotfix also raised the starting max Glory and Favor to 100,000. Before v1.0.3, new reigns started with a lower Glory/Favor ceiling. Players who idled overnight or ran heavy trading quest loops were hitting that cap and losing potential resource gain. The new 100,000 starting floor means early-to-mid reign Glory and Favor feel less constrained. Castle upgrades then push the ceiling higher, toward the 1,000,000 total.
Why these changes matter for the long game
These are not balance tweaks. They are fundamental cap raises that change how long you can safely idle. The original caps were designed around a shorter campaign. The 1,000,000 regular and Glory/Favor caps, plus the 500,000 Knowledge cap, are sized for the twenty-hour campaign plus the prestige tree after it. If you were quitting a session because stock hit an annoying ceiling, this patch removes that reason to quit.
For the production chains page: the smelter and smithy still matter. For late-game strategy: university research now deserves a building slot. For the prestige system: Glory and Favor as prestige resources have more room to breathe.

Tiny Tulip described the patch as a response to more feedback than they expected after launch. The expedition units are a first pass; expect the feature to grow based on player use. The storage raises are not expected to revert. They are the new endgame floor.
For the honest launch-week review and launch notes that cover September 3, this page is the first patch addendum. Later patches get their own numbered files under the updates hub.
Frequently Asked Questions
Quick answers for new rulers and returning prestige runners.
What are expedition units?
A new late-game unit type added in v1.0.3. They appear in the army tab alongside the five existing types. Public play hours are still thin; check the unit tier list once more footage exists.
What is the new endgame storage cap?
Regular resources: 1,000,000. Glory and Favor: 1,000,000 total (starting at 100,000). Knowledge: 500,000 total (25,000 per University).
How much storage does each castle upgrade add now?
+100,000 per castle upgrade. Castle upgrades also push the Glory/Favor cap to 1,000,000 combined.
How much does university research add per level?
+1,300 storage per university level, with a per-university max of 25,000 knowledge. Multiple universities stack toward the 500,000 total.
Did the starting Glory and Favor cap change?
Yes, it raised to 100,000 from a lower pre-patch value. This removes the early idle ceiling that was frustrating players.
Should I rebuild my late-game kingdom for these changes?
Not unless you were hitting caps. The raises benefit idle runs and late-reign production. If you have not hit a storage wall, the changes affect your next session more than your current one.
